Bob Hancox was employed by BC Hydro for the past 20 months as a coach and as a consultant. He worked on the Portal Project, which was a $40M Integrated IT initiative. It is my pleasure to provide this letter of reference. Bob’s contributions to the Portal Project have been significant and of excellent quality.
Bob worked with us in three capacities. He was a coach for over 90 people including IT professionals, contractors, subject matter experts and managers. He also worked as a member of our change management team and was responsible for helping our Project Management Office with Project Effectiveness. Bob performed all of these jobs with creativity and enthusiasm. Perhaps Bob’s most valuable contribution to the Portal Project Team is his coaching. Although I have been in the computer development industry for almost 30 years, I have never been on a project with a professional coach. It was a new experience for me and one that I think is most valuable and beneficial for team development, cohesiveness and productivity.
Bob is able to work both independently and as part of a team. He is very well liked by everyone and respected for his professional abilities. Working independently, he produced many deliverables including guidelines and procedures for project effectiveness. One of his most significant deliverables was an Interim Report for the Portal Project which represented a collection of over 100 megabytes of data made available on CDs. Working as a team, Bob facilitated meetings very effectively, he coordinated many small projects and was a great help with conflict resolution. I believe that Bob would make a valuable addition to any organization that he may join. I recommend him without hesitation and would gladly answer any request for further information.

Bob works hard to develop a personalized coaching relationship. He assessed the strengths and weaknesses of my leadership style and designed actions that addressed both the positive and negative aspects of that style. The insights on leadership that I gained from Bob have been put to use in my own organization and my staff are the real beneficiaries of his talents.

I served as a member for the Legislative Assembly of British Columbia from 1998 till 2005. In December of 2003, I made the decision that I had enjoyed my term as a politician but would not run again. I knew I had a little over a year to prepare for the next phase of my life, but was uneasy about the direction that might take until I met and was coached by Bob Hancox.
We began our coaching sessions in October of 2004. I appreciated his straightforward discussion of what I could expect from the coaching experience and we worked together to set my goals and expectations.
During the next three months I benefited enormously from his skill and insight. Because I had requested that the coaching experience be holistic and not confined to a job search, Bob was able to guide me to profound realizations about the person I was and the values that I held.
Coaching from Bob was an incredibly worthwhile investment and I know that all my future life choices will be more positive for me because of the time I spent with Bob.

It has been my privilege over the past six months to experience the executive coaching of Bob Hancox of Clarity Development Consulting. Since this was my first formal coaching experience, one of my objectives was to learn about coaching first hand in order to evaluate the potential of encouraging our over 700 local church pastors to consider getting this kind of learning experience. Some time was spent discussing the difference between coaching, consulting and counseling. Some excellent resources were recommended for further investigation.
The initial exercise of filling out my Corporate Client Profile was useful in helping me clarify in my own mind where I am today and what I wanted to get out of this coaching exercise, my job and my life. I discovered early in the coaching that I think well out loud, that discussing issues with others is for me an effective problem-solving strategy.
I have found the entire experience to be empowering, leading directly to the more productive accomplishment of my own objectives. I established two personal goals for my coaching:
1) To assist me in leading our organization through a leadership transition over a specific period of time and
2) To help me gain clarity regarding how I should invest the next phase of my life.
The values clarification exercise helped me clarify those core values that are most important to me. Bob Hancox is very personable, a good listener, asks stimulating questions and holds you responsible for your own answers and action plans.
This was a very positive first coaching experience. I highly recommend this kind of relationship in order to increase your personal effectiveness in the areas of your own choosing and encourage you to strongly consider Clarity Development Consulting as the people to help you get to where you want to go.

It is with pleasure that I provide a letter of endorsement for Bob Hancox of Clarity Consulting. My association with Bob extends for nearly two decades, beginning when we were both employed by the British Columbia Hydro and Power Authority. Bob was part of the Human Resources team on Vancouver Island with responsibilities for a range of resourcing, performance and support functions.
As a senior manager for BC Hydro, I always found Bob knowledgeable and articulate, providing necessary information with care and patience. In many cases he exercised corporate policy with compassion and understanding for the individual’s situation. His strong interpersonal skills always left his clients feeling respected and listened to.
When Bob left BC Hydro to create Clarity Consulting, we lost an important asset in the HR community. We came, however, to appreciate Bob as an even stronger mentor and coach in his preferred new role. I found his insights and coaching acumen to be of immense value, not only in my personal growth within BC Hydro, but also as a development agent for several of my staff. His focus on balance and self-awareness allowed several employees to reach levels of confidence that would not have been possible otherwise.
When asked to manage a major project in applied information technology, I asked Bob to take on a major role in helping develop a team environment with over 120 employees, few of whom had met prior to the project commencement. Bob was a leading player in leading change through personal awareness and dynamic coaching. His efforts enabled us to move from disparate individualists to work as a team within weeks. Over the two and a half years we were directly associated on the project our team ultimately delivered an IT system that could well have been impossible without his professional coaching at all levels.
I would, without any reservation, recommend Bob as a personal and professional coach. He has always presented the utmost integrity and honesty in all the situations in which we worked. His ideas and input reflect refined knowledge, careful thought and a keen interest to learn more, and to add value whenever and wherever possible.
If I can add further to this endorsement, I would be very pleased to do so.
